One week down 3 to go in the @nendaiko #TaikoLove photo challenge and Day 8's word is #WOMEN One of the members of Ensō Daiko (@chungmoon47) went to the first Women and Taiko STI before the North American Taiko Conference 2017 and it was nothing short of LEGENDARY. Panels on the pinoeers of taiko, learning history, seeing professionals and hearing them talk, JOY BUBBLE, all the support and love. Be on the lookout during Taikothon for a video update on what this amazing group of people has been up to. Group shot photo credit: Katharine Govea Saunders #womenintaiko #womenandtaiko

We just released our first full length studio album, and what better way to contribute to @nendaiko’s #taikolove challenge than by sharing album booklet photos featuring some of the awesome #women in our group? Our album is a yokai-themed exploration of Japanese mythology, taiko style. Here, Ger is modeling as the kitsune and Amelia is yuki onna. (sorry for the #latergram- we missed day 8!)

The theme of Day 8 of @nendaiko #taikolove Photo Challenge is WOMEN! From one of our members since 2009: "The Taiko drum evokes a sense of strength in so many people! At Naruwan, we love guiding our members and students in feeling this power and harnessing it as a means to express themselves. Too often in today's world climate, women (in particular) feel the pressure to be quiet and reserved; however, in our ensemble, we encourage everyone to let go of these constraints and embrace the power of the family and the drum. We have seen incredible transformations in women who start off timid and shy in their taiko journey, but then develop into empowered, bold, and expressive artists. The beat of the drum, like that of the heart, is in all of us, and it is meant for EVERYONE." . . . . . . #Taiko #taikolovephotochallenge #naruwantaiko #太鼓

Nen Daiko’s #TaikoLove Image Challenge Theme today is Women. Our group was founded by a woman - June W. ONeill - and like many taiko groups, we have always had more women than men in the group. Swipe through for portraits of all our current women performers. What is it about taiko that attracts and inspires so many women? After performances, we often hear from women the words “power” or “powerful” and “joy” or “joyful.” It seems fitting that just yesterday, we performed at an all-day @drumlikealady 5 Year Anniversary takeover of The Barnes Foundation (art museum) in Philadelphia. It was a celebration of female drummers (and the male musicians who support them) - and it was a powerful and joyful event! □: @den_sweeney (Tamiko & Jen), Nick Shenoy (Therese & Lauren), Nolan Wehr (Cathi, Christina, Steph & Elissa) #taiko #wadaiko #drums #drumming #philadelphia #philly #women #instaphilly #instadrums #DrumLikeALady2018 #community #collaboration

@nendaiko #taikolove #challenge Day 8: #women. . . Statistics show that at a non-professional level there are more women than men playing and teaching taiko. That percentage reverses at the professional level. @nendaiko #TaikoLove Image Challenge Day 9 Theme: shinobue. We only use shinobue in a few of our pieces. It would be great to expand that. It is obviously a VERY different skill from playing taiko and requires lots of additional practice. We’ve held group workshops with Kaoru Watanabe and Marco Lienhard in the past. And some members have done intensives or workshops on shinobue at conferences, but we currently only have two members who perform on shinobue. Okay I can’t resist... I’m joining @nendaiko’s #taikolove! Today’s theme is Shime. I love Shime. Throughout my 5 years studying and training with Kenny Endo and his Taiko Center of the Pacific, I’ve learned a great deal about repertoires that feature the shime daiko... I’ve become a much better musician studying those repertoires... I miss playing #edobayashi. I miss playing #symmetricalsoundscapes which was originally composed for 2 Shime. Because of how inspiring and intricate those music are, I’ve created #bodybayashi utilizing the kuchishoga of the shime daiko from Nageai and then #quitiplasinthepocket playing with the sound of Shime... Sometimes we play #SHIME with our hands instead of bachi. A day late for Shime Day #TenTen but here’s our #TaikoLove photo challenge pic for Day 10. We are doing an arrangement of Kris Bergstrom’s song Radiddlepa. @nendaiko you photo challenge is so much fun! □: @richryanphoto
