Happy February! It’s hard to believe that we are a month into 2015. Where does the time go? Through the snow, rain, and cold, Nen Daiko has been hard at work prepping for the upcoming Cherry Blossom season. There have been plenty of push-ups, crunches, planks, and wall sits to go around… and that’s before we even start to play on the drums! Our trainees are readying themselves for a potential performance debut at one of the Cherry Blossom shows, and we hope you will be there to cheer them on. Speaking of trainees, let’s take a moment to give a great Nen Daiko welcome to Kevin, who has joined Carla and Jeff in the training program. Welcome Kevin! Although we have been working hard to increase our depth and tighten up our pieces, Nen Daiko is not all work and no play. While that generally tends to involve food, we still manage to have fun at practices. At our most recent open house in January, we were joined by a lively group of Cub Scouts and their families. They had an abundance of energy and were eager to learn, which always makes it fun for Nen Daiko members to teach the basics and play alongside them. You too could have your chance at this much fun! Hanae mentioned our Open House sessions in the last blog post as a great way to keep in shape. Each month we open an hour of our practice to the public to join the group in warm-ups, exercises, and drills. You are then invited to observe the rest of practice as we rehearse our songs. You know you want to get in on those push-ups and planks! February 22nd is our next open house date, so we hope to see you there. This is a great way to help you continue those New Year’s resolutions of getting fit and to chase away those winter blues! It could be a great post-Valentine’s Day date with that special someone.
See you soon! -Dee |
