![]() Check out this awesome certificate of appreciation we got for performing at the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Program for the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the National Endowment for the Arts on May 29th. It was ALL about taiko, and we were honored to be able to participate in this program with Dr. Sojin Kim, who worked on the project that documents the development of American taiko: Big Drum: Taiko in the United States, and Mark H. Rooney, who provided the participants with a lecture/demonstration and some hands-on experience of taiko. We don’t usually get to participate in APA Heritage Month celebrations that take place during the day, so it was great that some of us could do this one. And of course, it's always fun to hang out and collaborate with fellow taiko players! ![]() June brings with it thoughts of sunny days, picnics, the beach, and baseball. For Nennies, it means that we are about a month away from Obon and 2 1.2 months until our 20th Anniversary Concert!! We started off the month by welcoming Jinelle as our newest member of Nen Daiko!! We have doubled our practice time, which means you may see us sporting KT tape, ace bandages, or ankle/knee braces (hopefully not!). Seriously, though, we are very excited about our concert which will include a reunion with many of our former members and performances by Soh Daiko of New York Buddhist Temple and Hoh Daiko of Seabrook Buddhist temple. Ticket sales are now live!! Buy your tickets here: http://nendaiko20th.eventzilla.net. We hope to see you at Obon on July 12th at Ekoji Buddhist Temple in Fairfax Station, VA, and at the 20th Anniversary on August 30th at Synetic Theater in Crystal City, VA. -Emily |
