After Nen Daiko performed at the Taiko Jam concerts at NATC 2017, we felt very connected with many new taiko performers. We wanted to celebrate that feeling of connection, so we created a month-long social media photo challenge.
Each day was assigned a taiko-related theme for people to share photos or videos. We made a graphic that showed the themes and we translated that graphic into French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Portuguese and Spanish. We asked everyone to tag their posts with the hashtag #taikolove.
Why is this photo and video challenge called #TaikoLove?
Taiko can build love in a community, and that is so important. Taiko can bring positive energy to those who feel stressed out and disconnected. It can be a place where people feel appreciated and celebrated each week. During #TaikoLove, we imagine that we are playing with taiko groups around the world.

Day 1 - Try Something New
The theme for Day 1 is "Try something new." This year, Nen Daiko tried something very new for us which was an ambitious video project. We each took videos of ourselves playing at home, and then edited them together into one video. We chose our very happy song Man'in Onrei for this project. There was a steep learning curve for all the members to learn how to record video that was well-composed with good sound. The result is a time capsule of our year with a lot of home and virtual practice while still staying connected as a group. We hope you enjoy the official debut of this video!

#TaikoLove 2020 Themes
If there was ever a year when we needed more #TaikoLove, it is 2020. We miss playing together every week in person, and we miss performing for audiences in person.
This year we decided to shorten the #TaikoLove Challenge to 10 days to make it more sustainable for everyone. That means #TaikoLove ends on October 10, or "Ten-Ten" which is a fun date for taiko performers because that is how we describe the sound of the shime drum.

#TaikoLove 2019 Themes
2019 is a big year for Nen Daiko - it's our 25 year anniversary. Very smart people started our group in 1994 and we're still playing today. That's why our first theme for TaikoLove is Anniversary.
