If you missed our annual workshops - fret not! This year Nen Daiko is opening our practice for open house sessions once a month. The Open House allows Ekoji Sangha members and friends to participate in our practice for warm-ups and drills, and to even stick around and watch practice if interested. This is an opportunity to see what it's like to train like a Nen Daiko member and see what it's like to hit a taiko.
The first Open House was held on Sunday, October 27. We welcomed two participants who took part in our warm-ups, got to do some pretty tricky timing drills, and even watched us learn a new song. I had a great time and hopefully our guests did as well! Our next two open houses are scheduled for November 24 and December 14 from 2 pm to 3 pm. All ages and all experience levels are welcome so feel free to stop by in some comfortable clothes and be ready for a workout. Earplugs are recommended since the drums can get quite loud. We will also be accepting $5 donations for Ekoji Buddhist Temple for each session, optional but definitely appreciated. We look forward to our next Open House and hope to see you there! --Brenda This weekend, several of the members of Nen Daiko had the pleasure of attending the performance by the TAO taiko drummers at GMU's Center for the Arts . For us, this is a real treat to see a professional group perform to give us a quick boost of energy and inspiration as we prepare to launch into our own performance season for the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
